My video game excitement for 2017!
I am immensely excited by the list of games due to release this year. I thought it would be difficult to top some of the massive games that hit the shelves in 2016, but what excites me most is the astonishing variety of games set to release in 2017. As I’ve said before, platforming looks set to make a return to mainstream gaming, whilst the monopoly of open worlders appears to have been broken for now.
The likes of Crash Bandicoot and Yooka Laylee are looking increasingly like chart toppers judging on pre-release evidence – from what Ive seen of Yooka Laylee, the game looks beautiful and lively whilst being totally adorable. The Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy is so far the only game I have pre-ordered. Where has this genre been for so long!? I need these colourful and playful video games back in my life. Now please.
Another game that has caught my eye is Horizon Zero Dawn. I love the visual style of this game. The ultra-vivid, wonderfully stylised landscapes set this game apart from everything else I’ve seen. I’m trying to avoid spoiling too much, I prefer to find out for myself, but from what I have seen, the combat is something that I cannot wait to get my hands on. I feel like the novelty of open worlds has worn off some what, but some of the ideas surrounding this game feel like they could add some interesting aspects to exploring the vast wilderness. Not to mention the possibility of a female protagonist as badass as Lara Croft.
While I have been obsessed Final Fantasy XV and everything to do with Square Enix, my interest in NieR: Automata has grown a fair bit. I’m still not entirely convinced I’m going to have time to play it around everything else, but it’s good to know I will have the option if I want it.
And as if my bank account wasn’t going to take enough damage this year, the FFVII Remake is rumoured to release at some point this year. Thanks Square Enix, I didn’t want to eat this year anyway. At least my hunger for unbelievable games will be satisfied. Sorry that’s a shocking way to end.
Which games are you most excited about this year? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.
