When Nico Rosberg first arrived in Formula One, I was immediately drawn to the rock
and roll style and the long hair. He was a unique character amongst the drivers and his exuberant driving was exciting.
I have always been a fan of the sport in general with a mutual respect for the whole field. But up until last year I had been a huge Rosberg fan. I was always slightly biased towards him and my support for Nico was always far greater than it was towards Lewis Hamilton.
But I felt at certain times last season that Rosberg’s behavior was getting petulant and comparable to a child who didn’t like being told “no”. It became difficult to maintain my support for him. At times this season I found myself disappointed when Rosberg would cruise to victories while Hamilton struggled.
As this season has gone on though I’ve found myself being drawn back to the German who has acquitted himself perfectly all year long. Only ever remaining entirely focused on his job, not allowing himself to become distracted in anyway by Hamilton’s theatrics.
It draws comparisons with Andy Murray’s world topping achievements of this year. The unshakable focus on just getting the job done. The process of winning has never been executed better.
I didn’t think I would be as pleased as I was to see Nico take the world championship in Abu Dhabi, but rarely in my opinion has a man deserved to take the title more.
